1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Jaleter (“Jaleter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, protects, and retains personal information when you use the Jaleter application, website, connected financial-account features, coaching services, and related services.

Jaleter is a personal financial wellness, budgeting, tracking, and educational planning service. Because Jaleter may process financial-account and other financial information, privacy and data security are important parts of how we design and operate the service.

2. Information We Collect

Account and Profile Information

We may collect information you provide when creating or managing a Jaleter account, including:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Account credentials
  • Membership or subscription status
  • Preferences and notification settings
  • Account-management information
  • Other information you voluntarily provide

Passwords are not intended to be stored in readable form.

Connected Financial-Account Information

If you choose to connect a supported financial institution through Plaid, Jaleter may receive financial information that you authorize Plaid and your financial institution to provide. The information available depends on the institution, account type, permissions you authorize, and Jaleter features you use.

  • Financial institution name
  • Account type and subtype
  • Masked account identifiers
  • Account balances
  • Transactions, dates, descriptions, merchants, and categories
  • Credit-card information made available through the connection
  • Loan and mortgage information
  • Investment and retirement-account information and holdings
  • Liabilities and interest-rate information
  • Other financial information authorized through your connection

Jaleter does not need or intend to store your financial-institution username or password. Plaid connections are used on a read-only basis for Jaleter’s current budgeting and financial-planning functionality. Jaleter does not use connected accounts to move money or initiate transfers.

Manually Entered Financial Information

You may also enter financial information directly into Jaleter, including:

  • Budgets and financial goals
  • Income and transactions
  • Spending and giving information
  • Cash and savings accounts
  • Investments and retirement accounts
  • Mortgages, loans, debts, and other liabilities
  • Assets and Net Worth information
  • Set Aside Cash and related planning information
  • Legacy and retirement assumptions
  • Notes and other financial-planning information

Depending on the feature and technical implementation, certain information may be stored in Jaleter systems or locally on your device. Information stored locally may not automatically transfer between devices and may be lost if applicable application or browser storage is cleared.

Payment and Membership Information

Jaleter uses Stripe to process Jaleter membership payments and applicable paid services through an external web-based checkout. Stripe processes payment credentials according to its own privacy and security practices.

Jaleter may receive information necessary to administer a payment or membership, including:

  • Payment, membership, or subscription status
  • Transaction identifiers
  • Payment dates
  • Amounts paid
  • Limited or masked payment-method information when provided by Stripe

Jaleter does not need to directly store your complete payment-card number or bank-account credentials when those credentials are processed by Stripe.

Coaching and Support Information

If you contact Jaleter for coaching or customer support, we may collect messages, questions, appointment details, support requests, replies, screenshots, documents, attachments, and other information you voluntarily provide.

Please do not send financial-institution passwords, Social Security numbers, full financial-account numbers, or other unnecessary highly sensitive information through support communications.

Device and Technical Information

Our systems or service providers may automatically receive limited technical information necessary to operate, troubleshoot, and secure the service, such as IP address, device or browser type, operating system, app version, session and authentication information, and technical logs or error information.

Cookies and Local Technologies

Our website, application, or service providers may use cookies, local storage, device storage, or similar technologies for authentication, security, preferences, maintaining sessions, storing certain user-entered information, and operating the service.

3. How We Obtain Financial Data

Jaleter uses Plaid to connect supported financial institutions to the application. The connection process is facilitated by Plaid and, in some circumstances, directly by your financial institution through OAuth or another supported authorization method.

The specific information available to Jaleter depends on your financial institution, account type, the Jaleter features you use, Plaid products enabled by Jaleter, and the permissions you authorize.

Jaleter’s current Plaid connectivity is read-only. Jaleter does not use Plaid to move money, initiate transfers, execute securities transactions, or make lending decisions.

4. How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:

  • Create, authenticate, maintain, and secure your Jaleter account
  • Provide monthly budgeting and financial-planning features
  • Retrieve and display financial information you authorize through Plaid
  • Organize, categorize, and display transactions
  • Provide financial-account aggregation and transaction tracking
  • Generate reports and calculate income, expenses, spending, savings, and trends
  • Calculate Net Worth, Set Aside Cash, Available Cash, and other financial summaries
  • Track assets, investments, retirement accounts, mortgages, loans, debts, and liabilities
  • Generate Legacy Build, Grow, and retirement projections
  • Provide Jaleter Coach and other educational financial insights
  • Process and administer memberships, coaching payments, refunds, and billing support
  • Send account, security, membership, service, email, budget, and overspending notifications
  • Respond to support and coaching requests
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and improve Jaleter
  • Detect fraud, misuse, unauthorized access, and security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms

Jaleter does not sell connected financial-account information or use connected financial-account information for third-party behavioral advertising.

5. Artificial Intelligence and Jaleter Coach

Jaleter includes Jaleter Coach, an AI-powered educational feature supported through Emergent.

Jaleter Coach may use information available within your Jaleter account to generate educational explanations and insights related to your financial information. Depending on how you use Jaleter Coach, this may include information concerning your budget, transactions, spending, income, assets, liabilities, Net Worth, investments, retirement information, Set Aside Cash, Available Cash, and Legacy planning information.

Jaleter uses this information to provide features such as financial summaries, budgeting and spending observations, educational explanations, and financial-planning insights. Information used by AI-powered functionality is limited to information reasonably necessary to provide the requested feature and operate the service.

Jaleter does not intend to provide AI-powered functionality with financial-institution usernames or passwords, Jaleter passwords, Plaid access tokens, API credentials, authentication credentials, or full financial-account numbers.

Jaleter Coach is provided for educational and informational purposes. AI-generated responses may be incomplete, inaccurate, or contain errors and should be independently reviewed. Jaleter Coach does not provide individualized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice and does not execute transactions or make financial decisions on behalf of users.

6. How We Share Information

Jaleter may disclose information to service providers that help us operate, maintain, secure, and support the service. Current key providers include:

  • Emergent — application infrastructure, hosting, AI-powered Jaleter Coach functionality, and automated communications and notifications, including email and budget/overspending alerts
  • Plaid — financial-account connectivity and retrieval of financial information you authorize from supported financial institutions
  • Stripe — payment processing for Jaleter memberships and applicable paid services through Jaleter’s external web-based checkout
  • Other database, storage, security, communications, customer-support, and technology providers reasonably necessary to operate and protect Jaleter

Service providers receive information only as reasonably necessary to perform services for Jaleter and subject to applicable contractual, privacy, security, and legal requirements.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers; government authorities or legal parties when required or reasonably necessary; and parties involved in a potential or completed merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to applicable law.

Jaleter does not authorize service providers to use connected financial-account information for their own unrelated marketing purposes.

7. Plaid Privacy Practices

Jaleter uses Plaid for financial-account connectivity. Plaid may collect and process information under its own End User Privacy Policy and applicable terms. Jaleter’s Privacy Policy describes how Jaleter handles information Jaleter receives, while Plaid’s privacy documentation describes Plaid’s independent processing.

Users should review the privacy disclosures presented during the financial-account connection process. If Jaleter adds or changes financial-data providers, this Privacy Policy may be updated as appropriate.

8. Disconnecting a Financial Institution

You may disconnect a linked financial institution using available Jaleter account-management features.

When a supported financial institution is disconnected, Jaleter will take steps to terminate the applicable Plaid connection and stop future retrieval of information through that connection.

Disconnecting a financial institution does not automatically delete your Jaleter account or cancel your Jaleter membership.

Information previously imported into Jaleter may be retained when reasonably necessary to maintain user-requested historical financial records, subject to Jaleter’s retention practices and applicable law. Available data-management and account-deletion features may be used to remove information as applicable.

9. Data Retention

Jaleter retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the service, maintaining appropriate business and payment records, protecting the service, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and satisfying applicable legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods.

If you cancel a paid membership, access may continue through the end of the applicable paid membership period. When a membership expires, membership-only functionality, including active financial-account connectivity, may end. Ending or canceling a membership does not automatically delete your Jaleter account.

Information contained in backups may remain for a limited period until those backups expire or are overwritten in accordance with applicable backup-retention procedures.

10. Reset App Data and Account Deletion

Reset App Data. Jaleter provides a Reset App Data feature that allows you to clear applicable financial and planning information associated with your Jaleter account without necessarily closing the account itself.

Reset App Data is designed to clear applicable user-created financial data, including manual financial accounts, investments and retirement accounts, liabilities, transactions, budgets, Set Aside information, and other applicable financial-planning data. The reset process is separate from permanently deleting your Jaleter account and may be separate from membership cancellation or third-party payment records.

Delete Account. Jaleter provides an in-app account-deletion feature. Delete Account permanently closes your Jaleter account and initiates deletion of applicable personal and financial information associated with that account from active Jaleter systems.

Account deletion is separate from canceling an annual membership, resetting app data, or disconnecting an individual financial institution.

When an account is deleted, Jaleter will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify applicable personal and financial information from active systems. Jaleter may retain limited information when reasonably necessary or legally required for tax or accounting records, payment records, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or establishing or defending legal claims.

Information may remain temporarily in system backups until those backups expire or are overwritten in accordance with applicable retention practices.

Users may initiate account deletion through the available in-app account-management feature or contact support@jaleter.com for assistance.

11. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights or choices concerning your personal information, including the ability to access, correct, delete, or request information about certain processing.

Within Jaleter, users may manage or update certain account information, notification preferences, manually entered financial information, linked financial institutions, Reset App Data, and account deletion.

To submit a privacy-related request or ask a question about your information, contact support@jaleter.com. Jaleter may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.

12. Security

Jaleter uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal and financial information. These safeguards may include access controls, authentication measures, encrypted communications, restricted access to sensitive credentials, and security practices provided by Jaleter’s infrastructure and service providers.

Plaid access credentials and similar sensitive connection credentials are maintained within backend systems and are not intended to be exposed through the user-facing application.

No electronic system, transmission method, processing system, or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Jaleter therefore cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Financial Information and Educational Use

Jaleter is a personal financial wellness, budgeting, tracking, and educational planning service. Jaleter is not a bank, brokerage, investment adviser, lender, or money-transmission service.

Jaleter does not hold or transfer customer funds, execute securities transactions, manage investments on behalf of users, make loans, or make credit decisions.

Legacy projections, Jaleter Coach, reports, calculations, and other planning tools are provided for educational and informational purposes. Projections are hypothetical estimates and are not guarantees of future performance. Jaleter does not provide individualized investment, tax, or legal advice.

14. Children’s Privacy

Jaleter is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 through the service. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child in circumstances where such collection is not permitted, we will take reasonable steps to address the information as required by applicable law.

15. U.S. Service and International Users

Jaleter is currently designed primarily for users in the United States. If you access Jaleter from outside the United States, your information may be processed or stored in the United States or other locations where Jaleter’s service providers operate, subject to applicable law.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Jaleter’s features, technology, service providers, legal requirements, or privacy practices.

When we make material changes, we may provide notice through the application, website, email, or another appropriate method. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy identifies when the policy was most recently revised.

17. Third-Party Services and Links

Jaleter may provide access to or links to third-party services, including Plaid and Stripe. Third-party services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Jaleter is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties acting independently of Jaleter. Users should review applicable third-party privacy notices before providing information to those services.

18. State Privacy Disclosures

Depending on your state of residence and applicable law, you may have additional privacy rights regarding personal information. These rights may include requesting access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information, or information about categories of personal information collected, used, or disclosed.

Jaleter does not sell connected financial-account information and does not use connected financial-account information for third-party behavioral advertising.

Privacy requests may be submitted to support@jaleter.com. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and process your request.
